Uplands Gulls and Talk
A real mix of a day! Early morning and another visit to the upland forests in search of Great grey Shrike. Sadly the weather again hampered the search, this time low cloud made the search near impossible. Two lovely Red Kites were seen well lower down, below the cloud level, but birds in the forest were few. A lovely male Lesser Redpoll did show off on the side of the track and a gang of Bullfinch melted away into the cloud, but that was about it!

Back on the coast it was a bright day, very frustrating, we were loading up the car for a talk in Rhos on Sea when we had a call from our great friend Marc Hughes. Marc was at Rhos on Sea watching a Mediterranean Gull! Nice coincidence, so with a little time before our talk we grabbed some bread and headed for the promenade.

We had not even opened the bag of bread when Black headed Gulls flew towards us, sharp eyed these gulls! Within a few moments of throwing bread the lovely adult Mediterranean Gull swooped in, hope you can pick it out?

The Med Gull was a little slower to react than the Black-heads and found it difficult to grab any food.

Here the Med Gull hangs in the breeze over the beach, re-thinking tactics?

Nice comparison with an adult Black-headed Gull in flight, Meds are really lovely birds.

After a little practice the Med Gull got the idea and began to grab bread with the best of them! We soaked up the views of this stunning gull at arms length.

Think this one is the most pleasing shot?

Here is the Med Gull on the water, this shot taken earlier by Marc Hughes, many thanks for shout about this bird Marc, and very well timed!
We only had a few hundred yards to go for our talk at Rhos Manor retirement complex and met a lovely group of people, they really enjoyed our travelogue version of The Biggest Twitch talk, more food, scenery and mammals in this one.
