Thank you all at Martin Mere WWT
Thank you all at Martin Mere WWT
We spent a wonderful weekend at Martin Mere WWT reserve in Lancashire at the North West Birdwatching Festival. A huge thank you to all the staff, volunteers, exhibitors and the thousands of visitors who made the event a huge success.

A marvellous bird spectacle is always to be had at Martin Mere WWT!
So many people came along to the Raines Observatory Hide, where we were, overlooking the mere which was thronged with birds.

View from our position in the hide, amazing!
Martin Mere WWT really is one of those special reserves that has a lot for everyone! An amazing bird spectacle including masses of wildfowl and much more with raptors, owls, finches and rarities! A great cafe with super food and drinks, a well-stocked shop and of course the collection of wildfowl. What more do you need for a great day out? So good in fact we are back there later this week.

Each afternoon the birds are fed right outside the hide!
Late afternoon the birds began to gather outside the hide windows. Even without a watch between them, they knew food was coming! One of the WWT staff appeared with a wheelbarrow loaded with grain, and birds flocked in. The warden gave a running commentory as he spread the food within a few feet of us, relayed to the hide through a loudspeaker. It was a very informative talk and the views of the Whooper Swans and masses of ducks and gangs of Ruff were just stunning.

All too soon our weekend drew to a close as the sky filled with thousands of geese
Once again a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the North West Birdwatching Festival such a fun event and we look forward to next year, as well as our visit later in the week!
