Talking and birding

Barn Owl, surely one of the most lovely birds anywhere?
Last night we gave a talk on The Biggest Twitch, to the Wirral Barn Owl Trust. There was even a Barn Owl, Eric, in the audience! A first for us to talk to a Barn Owl!

The early bird gets the best seat - Eric the Barn Owl was one of the first to arrive for our talk!
A lovely group of people who made us most welcome and asked lots of interesting questions after the talk. Many thanks to all those who came along. For more information on the Wirral Barn owl Trust check out their website -

We hope to return and meet this wonderful group again and wish them well with all their Barn Owl conservation work.

We paid an early morning visit to the Great Orme, Llandudno but migrants were hard to find despite a south-east wind, which is what we pray for in Autumn. "Highlights" included two Chiffchaffs, two Blackcaps, and a Swallow! Of interest were two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, not a regular bird here, and a Bullfinch which was also unusual. Offshore a few Gannets were passing and five Common Scoter flew west, and a very local Guillemot was on the sea.
With a weekend of guiding ahead, we hope the winds bring more birds soon! Over 500 Yellow-browed Warblers were found in the UK yesterday so we must have a chance of one or two in North Wales.

Dawn over the cemetery on the Great Orme.
