The first Wheatear of the year in Wales was found today, seen on Ramsey Island off the Pembrokeshire coast, a great sign that spring is coming. We have also heard a few reports of Sand Martins coming in so keep a look out for more migrants every day. We are planning a days birding on the Dee Estuary on Friday so hope to have some good birds to write about soon! Work on the book is slow but steady and we are pretty pleased with progress so far. We are giving a talk at Bangor Bird Group on the 11th March so that should be fun.Our birding this week has been limited to what we have seen from the window, raptors have been the highlight with Peregrine, Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk all seen. The local Fulmars are daily flying back and forth on their stiff wings to the cliff above us. A new bird for a window list was a handsome Goldfinch.Alan did pop down to the Conwy Estuary last evening and joined friends Mike Duckham and Rob Sandham looking for gulls coming in to roost but in vile weather a single adult Yellow Legged Gull was the best the trio could manage.
