Snow Bunting Challenge
We were set a challenge today: to provide frame-filling views of Snow Bunting.
With the warm temperatures and southerly winds we were concerned that the dwindling numbers of Snow Buntings may well have already decided to head north to their Arctic breeding grounds.
We arrived on the beach to see lots of shingle but not a bunting to be seen. Oh dear, had they all gone?
Movement on the shingle caught our eye: a Ringed Plover

A Skylark flew in and landed near the seed we'd put down on the beach

We enjoyed great views of the Skylark but it still wasn't a bunting!
Minutes ticked by as we scanned and re-scanned the pebbles but still no buntings! We were just thinking about admitting defeat when a movement amongst the pebbles attracted our attention. A Snow Bunting!

Snow Bunting showing well and huge smiles all round

The Snow Bunting stayed around giving brilliant views
If you'd like to enjoy some great birding with us, we still have space available on our North Wales Uplands birding trip on Wednesday 28th March. Our target birds will be: Great Grey Shrike, Goshawk, Crossbill and Red Grouse amongst many others. Email us on
