What is a Cookie

A cookie, also known as an HTTP cookie, web cookie, or browser cookie, is a piece of data stored by a website within a browser, and then subsequently sent back to the same website by the browser. Cookies were designed to be a reliable mechanism for websites to remember things that a browser had done there in the past, which can include having clicked particular buttons, logging in, or having read pages on that site months or years ago.

NOTE : It does not know who you are or look at any of your personal files on your computer.

Why we use them

When we provide services, we want to make them easy, useful and reliable. Where services are delivered on the internet, this sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, your computer or mobile phone. These include small files known as cookies. They cannot be used to identify you personally.

These pieces of information are used to improve services for you through, for example:

  • recognising that you may already have given a username and password so you don’t need to do it for every web page requested
  • measuring how many people are using services, so they can be made easier to use and there’s enough capacity to ensure they are fast
  • analysing anonymised data to help us understand how people interact with our website so we can make them better

You can manage these small files and learn more about them from the article, Internet Browser cookies- what they are and how to manage them

No, not the book of The Biggest Twitch yet, though we’re still cracking on with that and have been discussing front cover designs with our publisher, so watch this space. But ‘Birds, Boots and Butties’ has arrived!  This is a series of books that Ruth has written on the best places in North Wales to go for a walk, watch birds and enjoy a great cup of tea.  The first two books on Anglesey and Conwy/Eastern Snowdonia have just been published and Ruth hopes to extend the series next with a third book on the Lleyn
Peninsula and mid-Wales.As you can imagine, these books were a lot of fun to produce, and all the walks, and of course the cafes, were thoroughly tested to make sure they came up to scratch.  Not only did the walks have to be easy to follow, the birding had to be good, and the tea and cakes afterwards tasty enough to make it into the book.  What a great excuse to get out with the binoculars! The books are full of great colour photos, the outstanding bird images being provided by professional photographer, Steve Young, while Ruth took the landscape shots out walking to show just how stunning the countryside is around here.  Each walk has a step-by-step guide to the route, with details of the particular birding locations, and what species to look out for at different times of the year.If you would like to buy an individually signed copy at £6.50 per book plus £1.50 postage and packing, please email us on info@thebiggesttwitch.com and we’ll be happy to send you one! As a special deal, if you buy both books, the postage and packing is still only £1.50.  Please make cheques payable to ‘Ruth Miller’.
