Not long until Birdfair at Rutland!
With a thump the 2010 Birdfair programme arrived on the doormat today. As always a glance through the brochure produced a mouth watering array of every thing birding all at one huge event. We have been visiting Birdfair at Rutland Water for many years and the event never fails to produce a wonderful weekend of non-stop bird talk. This year’s fair takes place Friday 20 to Sunday 22 August at the usual venue, Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre, Egleton Nature Reserve and promises to be another great event. Birdfair does a marvellous job of raising vital funds for bird conservation; this year for the protection of Ethiopia’s endangered endemic bird species. With memories of our visit to this amazing African country, in 2008, still vivid in our minds we hope the fund raising will again be a huge success.
We are especially excited about this Birdfair as we will be launching our book “The Biggest Twitch” the story of our crazy birding year around the globe in 2008. We will be signing copies of the book throughout the fair and really look forward to meeting many of the people who so kindly follow this website. Do come along and say hello, we will be on the Tropical Birding stand in marquee four, stands 50 and 51, be great to meet you!
We are also giving an illustrated talk, about The Biggest Twitch, on Friday 20 August in the Events Marquee at 1pm followed by a book signing session here, do come along and share some of our highs and lows of 2008.
If you have not been to the Birdfair before 2010 should be the year you make the pilgrimage and we are sure you will have a fantastic time, so much to see and do! And of course don’t forget your binoculars the birding is very good from the hides just yards from the marquees and Ospreys even pass right over the fair! Or perhaps you might like to upgrade your optics? No better place to try out all the makes before you make your choice. Do check out the Leica stand for some of the very best on offer! Then there is the art marquee, lose yourself here for hours gazing at mouth-watering bird and wildlife art. All things bird related are here and of course it is a huge social event and it is impossible to walk more than a few yards without catching up with someone from birding past! The three days just fly-by and we always wish we had more time to see all the things we just did not have time to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you there!
