On Tuesday we picked up five clients from Celtic Bird Tours www.celticbirdtours.com for a birding holiday here in North Wales. We are having great fun showing them the wonderful birds and scenery on our doorstep. So far, we have visited the woodlands of the Conwy valley, wild mountain passes, coastal lagoon, towering sea cliffs and freshwater lakes. Just a few of the highlights so far include classic Welsh birds such as Pied Flycatcher, Wood Warbler and Common Redstart in the oaks, Ring Ouzel and Twite in the hills, Atlantic Puffins and Manx Shearwaters on the Anglesey coast, lekking Black Grouse in the uplands and a host of raptors including Northern Goshawk, Merlin, Peregrine and Red Kite. Add to these such enigmatic species as Red-billed Chough, Dipper, Stonechat and Black Guillemot, and you can see what a wonderful location North Wales is for birding.
