More Brilliant Birding on our Norfolk Houseparty
The birding continues thick and fast on our week-long Norfolk Houseparty. Our day usually starts at dawn with a walk out onto the marshes right from our base at Burnham Overy Staithe as skein after skein of geese fly over, mostly Pink-footed but also Brents and Greylags plus a few Egyptians in the mix.
Our whole group enjoyed excellent close-up views of Firecrest, Lapland Bunting overhead, 5 Mediterranean Gulls, Red Kite and the amazing sight of an Egyptian Vulture coming in off the sea at Cley at lunchtime yesterday! The bird has subsequently been identified as an escape but that can't detract from the fabulous sight of this spectacularly huge bird flying in from the sea, then flying west from Cley along the coast causing mayhem and pandemonium as every wader, gull and wildfowl lifted into the sky!
Our birding day ended as we watched the Common Cranes coming in to roost at Hickling, with up to 30 Marsh Harriers and the incredible record of Barn Owl, Tawny Owl and Short-eared Owl all seen from the same viewpoint without even moving our feet!
It's no wonder we love birding in Norfolk! And there's still more to come.....
