Why we use them

When we provide services, we want to make them easy, useful and reliable. Where services are delivered on the internet, this sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, your computer or mobile phone. These include small files known as cookies. They cannot be used to identify you personally.

These pieces of information are used to improve services for you through, for example:

  • recognising that you may already have given a username and password so you don’t need to do it for every web page requested
  • measuring how many people are using services, so they can be made easier to use and there’s enough capacity to ensure they are fast
  • analysing anonymised data to help us understand how people interact with our website so we can make them better

You can manage these small files and learn more about them from the article, Internet Browser cookies- what they are and how to manage them

This morning saw us both out in the field again, this time in the historic and beautiful churchyard of the 13th Century Caerhun Church overlooking the Conwy River.  We set up the scope and had a scan of the river.  We scoped through the large number of roosting gulls but a thorough search revealed only Great and Lesser Black-backed Gulls and Herring Gulls, although Goosander was a bonus.  Then we turned our backs on the birding and concentrated on the matter in hand.  We had some serious modelling to do!Country Innovation, who makes the most fantastic outdoor clothing with birders particularly in mind, has been kind enough to ask us again to model various items of clothing for their latest catalogue.  Having worn their clothes throughout The Biggest Twitch in 2008, we can vouch for how great they are in the field, so we were more than happy to oblige.  A large box of various items of clothing duly arrived, and in the privacy of our home, we tried on the range of bodywarmers, fleeces and jackets.  They looked great, so it was time to take our action shots in the field.  Plan A was to try out our back yard, the Great Orme, but we couldn’t find a suitable spot that wasn’t already full of holidaymakers enjoying the glorious Welsh landscape in incredible sunshine.  So we tried Plan B, a little known and tranquil ancient Church on the site of a Roman Fort overlooking the River Conwy.  Here we had a range of craggy stone walls and ancient yew trees to use as a backdrop.  So we opened up the dressing up box and for the next few hours we posed, pouted and strutted our stuff in front of the camera.  But we have to admit we’re rather better at standing behind the camera than in front of it!Even in this tucked-away spot, we couldn’t escape holidaymakers, who came to enjoy this secluded church and churchyard.  What on earth they made of us trying to look relaxed and natural in a heavyweight waterproof smock and trousers in 27 degree heat and blazing sunshine, we can’t imagine.  But over 400 photographs later, we decided it was a wrap!Hopefully Maria Chilvers of Country Innovation will approve of the shots and we’ll be starring in their new catalogue.  If you want a laugh, look out for them at all good bird reserves and birdfairs.  And if you’d rather check out the clothing without the distraction of two rather unphotogenic birders, log on to www.countryinnovation.com – you won’t be disappointed!
