Migration in the back garden
Migration in the back garden
We are very lucky living in Llandudno, North Wales with the headland of the Great Orme just above the house.
The Great Orme is a magnet for migrant birds and at this time of year it is possible to see huge numbers of birds on the move, just minutes from our door!
Early mornings are best to see visible migration, that is birds flying over the headland on their journeys south.
With light winds it was a good morning! Just as the light came up we could hear birds calling as they passed over head. Crossbills in particular were moving with numerous small flocks heading west giving their "chupp, chupp" calls.
Greenfinches, Chaffinches, Siskins, Redpolls, Skylarks, Meadow Pipts were all moving!
Birds were also in the bushes, many Blackbirds were feeding eagerly after a long night flight, careful searching produced more birds

Fieldfares fresh in from Scandinavia dropped into the trees.

Joined by their cousins, Redwings.

A stunning Brambling landed in the bushes at the back of the cemetry, a real beauty!
October is a wonderful time of year for birds, you never know what will pop up next!
Why not join us for great birds and great fun?
We are giving a talk tonight, Friday 21st October, in Penrhyn Bay at the Church Hall, near the Co-Op store at 7.30pm all welcome do come along!
