Great Orme back garden birding
Great Orme back garden birding
An early morning visit to our "back garden" AKA the Great Orme, Llandudno was a wet affair as heavy rain and sleet showers put a dampner on birding.
The rain swept across the headland and out over the bay towards the windfarm
Migrants were few in number, no surprise given the weather, it was cold too! A Swallow battled north with small flocks of Lesser Redpoll, Siskin, Goldfinch, Chaffinch and Greenfinch. Offshore Gannets were feeding, always a thrill to see, Kittiwakes, Razorbills and Guillemots were all below the cliffs. A Sandwich Tern and two Curlew, not common here, flew east.
Two hardy Wheatears braved the downpour, bet they wished they stayed further south!
Ravens and Stonechats were not put off by the grim conditions and really showed off. Will try again in the morning in the hope of more migrants.
