Dotterel on the Great Orme
Dotterel on the Great Orme - a photo blog
This morning's birding on the Great Orme was truly spectacular. It started with an incredible sunrise - who says red sky in the morning is birder's warning!

And then the flood of amazing birds started. Highlights included Red-rumped Swallow, Arctic Redpoll, Greenland Redpoll (potential first record for Wales of this race), two Lapland Buntings, Short-eared Owl, Ring Ouzel, two Yellow Wagtails,Crossbill, Brambling, Garden Warbler, Grasshopper Warbler and Tree Pipits. Add to this the local residents, breeding seabirds and a lovely flock of seven Chough showing off in the sunshine. Wow, that's about 10 years' worth of great birds all in one day!

But most obliging from a photo point of view was the male Dotterel on the limestone pavement. This bird pottered about quite happily in full view for most of the day, and even stayed put long enough for us to share scope views with a party of school kids out on a Sunday ramble round the Orme. Some had their own binoculars and all ooh'ed with delight at this beautiful bird as it soaked up the warmth from the rocks.
So here are just a few (!) more of the many photos that we took today.

We're looking forward to some more great days guiding around North Wales this week, with a tour of Anglesey scheduled tomorrow (Monday), and a visit to the uplands searching for Black Grouse on Wednesday.
