Choughed to be back!

Our fifteen minutes of fame was extended a little today. A photographer from The Daily Mail arrived in Llandudno to take some shots of us for an article due to be published on Saturday ( 10th ). Kevin the snapper was a very nice guy and wanted a wild location for the pics. The wonderful thing about living here in Llandudno is that the Great Orme, an enormous limestone headland is right above the town, the ideal spot, and just minutes from our door! Kevin had us perched on the cliff edge and tried his best to get us to look at the camera and not the birds. But when a pair of Chough appeared on the sunlit slope above us we called a halt and watched these charismatic corvids, even Kevin had a look through the bins.
Later a brief visit to RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve where Water Rails were strutting around in full view in the frozen conditions. The wintering Firecrest was reported again but we did not see it during our brief walk. We did meet up with many of the staff and volunteers and we confirmed that we would give a fund raising talk on 20th February 2009. The volunteers are fund raising for a new board walk which will greatly enhance viewing at this wonderful reserve. If you would like to come along and hear more about The Biggest Twitch, first hand, contact the reserve to book, 01492 584091.
