It was great to catch up with some old friends last night when we gave a talk on The Biggest Twitch to the Cambrian Ornithological Society. They were an excellent audience, with plenty of oohing and aahing and laughter in all the right places during our talk. They had some good questions for us afterwards and the discussions continued over tea. In fact, they were such a lively bunch that we decided to join COS ourselves, though we resisted the urge to volunteer as the new Treasurer for the Society that they were looking to appoint last night. Anyone who remembers how The Biggest Twitch nearly ran out of money in August 2008 will understand why! The venue was Pensychnant Nature Conservation Centre, a dramatic building set with an area of woodland at its back and views towards Conwy and the sea from the front. With the lighter evenings now it was uplifting to arrive at this interesting venue with the air full of birdsong. It can only be days before the Welsh woodland specialists, Pied Flycatcher and Common Redstart, arrive on the scene as they've been reported further south in the country already.Luckily it is also only a few days until we hold our two digi-scoping workshops at this beautiful centre next weekend, so we're hoping for some good birding targets to digi-scope. Expert Paul Hackett will be holding a series of masterclasses with tips and tricks on how to get the best out of your equipment with plenty of time for hands-on practice at Pensychnant. Sunday 18th April is pretty booked up but there's still some space to join us on Saturday 17th for what will be a great day of fun and photography.
