Birds on the beach
After finishing a bird survey near the Dee Estuaty on the way back to Llandudno stopped off at Kinmel Bay. The beach here at the mouth of the River Clwyd has held a small group of Snow Buntings through the winter.
We have been putting seed down regularly, near some tree stumps on the tideline, and the buntings have become used to finding an easy meal here. The views of these wonderful Arctic birds can be very good indeed, if you approach carefully.
The sun was warm and no wind, ideal for seeing these special birds and they were really showing off! Two Snow Buntings were actually sat on one of the logs where we have put the seed. A third bird was on the shingle beach just a few feet away, as ever the birds were delightfully confiding as we crept closer taking great care not to spook them.
By sitting a little distance away the birds continued to sit in the warm sun and showed no concern what so ever, a magical sighting of these cutest of birds.
