An early morning call from Peter Alderson had Alan dashing up the Great Orme, here at Llandudno. Ruth was only dashing to work sadly. Alan arrived at the cemetery, a good place for migrants with some sheltered bushes, and could see Peter looking intently. Quickly going over, he was not quick enough, in the time it had taken to walk the fifty meters or so the Firecrest had vanished. Oh no not another dip! The run of bad luck this week just wasn’t funny. Peter described how the gorgeous little bird had been feeding in the bushes and showing pretty well but had somehow just vanished before his eyes moments earlier. Alan was gutted. They both looked hard but after half an hour or so no sign of the Firecrest. Peter headed off and Alan went to check nearby areas of cover just in case he could relocate the bird. No luck and nothing else found. As Alan walked back to the car he thought he might just have one more look in the cemetery. Walking up to the bushes the first bird he saw was the Firecrest! Wow! What a cracking bird and showing off nicely, where had it been earlier?
News from Aberdaron, where Alan was yesterday not seeing much, was painful. Marc and Andy were enjoying a great morning with Richard’s Pipit, Black Redstart and a Firecrest!
