Where are we going part 3
Where are we going part 3

Late May and the first half of June 2008 will see us birding in northern Europe. We begin in southern Finland in the forests near Hauho. This magical area hold very special birds, we hope to encounter Capercaillie, Hazelhen, Three toed Woodpecker and of course owls. Alan has birded here before but this will be Ruth’s first time in this area, second visit to Finland having twitched the Azure Tit in -19 degrees earlier this year. We hope it will be a lot warmer in May. From here we go to Estonia for a host of new birds before returning to Finland and flying north to Ivalo above the Arctic Circle for more great birds. Then drive across the border into Norway and that mind blowing location of Varanger Fjord. The birding and scenery have to be seen to be believed. We will want to collect such wonderful birds as Stella’s Eider and White billed Diver and of course always the chance of finding our own rarity. We hope it will be a good Lemming year then we can look forward to increased chances of two real target birds – Great grey Owl and Hawk Owl and who knows if our luck is really in a Snowy Owl, can’t wait!
