At the end of two fantastic birding weeks in Ghana, we've ended today on 1833 species, two birds past the half-way mark in our attempt to beat the current world record of 3662. Landmark Bird Number 1832 was Western Black-headed Oriole and we also picked up Yellow-billed Turaco, Black Cuckoo, Copper-tailed Glossy Starling, Golden Greenbul, Shining Drongo and Yellow-spotted Barbet. We've just got time to cram in a morning's birding at Shia Hills tomorrow, and a last bowl of fufu and goat light soup for lunch before we head off to the airport for our marathon journey home - Accra to Manchester via Lagos, Addis Ababa, Rome and London. Maybe we'll be able to tick something new out of the plane window. We'll be writing a full diary with photos of our adventures in Ghana when we're back with European internet access, but we can't leave the country without saying thanks a million to Mark Williams of Ashanti African Tours, ground agent for Tropical Birding. Over 200 new birds in 2 weeks, hot tea and biscuits every morning and even cheese-and-marmite sandwiches in the field, what a hero! We can't recommend him highly enough, and his great team of local guides, Robert the Hat, Kalu the Footballer, Steve the Driver, and Zack the Gun at Mole.Posted 6.40pm 15th March, Accra Ghana
