Victims of industrial action!
Kaziranga NP was closed today due a strike by local staff and jeep drivers in protest to the rerouting of the proposed bypass. So we instead we walked the trail in the forest outside the park above Jupuri Ghar hotel, in the morning, and a nearby tea plantation in the afternoon - sadly no sampling the produce though! Amazingly this proved very productive and we added 17 new species during the day, including Blue-naped Pitta, Green Cochoa, Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrush, Rusty-bellied Shortwing, and White-browed Scimitar-babbler. The day finished off nicely with close up views of a Large-tailed Nightjar near the entrance to the hotel on our return at dusk.Bird species total: 4116
