Last chance to enjoy Peruvian seabirds. With time to kill before we headed for Lima airport and the start of our marathon journey back home, we went for a walk along the seafront. After a birdless day working on admin in Cusco, it was nice to get some fresh air (well, moving air, the smog around Lima can’t really be called fresh!) and see a couple of birds as we went for a walk along the cliffs overlooking the shore at Miraflores. Watching the world go by as we drank a hot chocolate, something they do make very well here, we were very pleased to have a last look at some of the seabirds we’d picked up on our first arrival in Peru, how long ago that seems! Peruvian Boobies were diving into the sea around a small fishing boat, Inca Terns were soaring over a pier that would do Brighton proud, Peruvian Pelicans slowly cruised the shoreline, while Belcher’s Gulls were here in good numbers too.
Providing we have no more flight delays, we should be back in the UK late on Monday night, and look forward to picking a couple of year ticks back on our home patch. Assuming the jetlag’s not too bad we hope to join a young supporter, Rachel, and her grandfather Alan Gray on Tuesday morning as they do a Little Twitch around the Conwy area to raise money for our chosen charity, Mindo Cloudforest Foundation. You too can be part of this by logging on to www.justgiving.com/thebiggesttwitch to make a donation and leave a message of support for Rachel.
