Riverine Woods back to Tiger Camp
16th November. After some early morning birding we headed out of the valley birding our way back to the vehicle. Highlights included a Greater Flame back Woodpecker, Lesser Fish Eagle and Plum-headed Parakeets – showing off on top of bare tree alongside the trail.
Back to Tiger Camp for quick lunch then out again birding an area of small fields and forest edge just outside the Corbett NP. The area was alive with birds and we stopped every few yards to jump out and see more amazing birds. An Indian Grey Hornbill swept across the road and luckily landed in full view, minutes later we were watching an Oriental Pied Hornbill as a pair of Black-rumped Flameback woodpeckers climbed an adjacent tree! Kalij Pheasants lurked in the bushes; Red-billed Blue Magpies flew low overhead and Black-rumped Flowerpeckers fed in flowering trees, quite a place! Reaching an area of small fields we left the forest birds behind and began picking up more open country birds – Pied Stonechat, Long-billed Pipit, Indian Roller and gangs of spectacular Indian Peafowl just weird to see male peacocks strutting around in the wild. All too soon dusk fell and we headed back for dinner at Tiger Camp.
