Just a few lines to let you know that we made it safely back to sunny North Wales from New York, sadly any hopes of birding enroute to the airport were spoiled by horrific traffic jams, three hour drive turned into six hours! Glad we left Cape May when we did. We did stay around at the Cape long enough to find out the results of The World Series of Birding. We popped into the post big day brunch and were amazed to see hundreds of birders packed into a huge room with a fantastic buffet breakfast laid out! An award ceremony took place with members of the winning teams coming up to accept their prizes. This was followed by each competing team giving a few brief highlights of their day. The overall winners were The Lagerheads with a very impressive 229 species recorded in 24 hours. The guys received the wonderful Urner Stone Cup and vowed to be back next year to defend the trophy. It was really great to see so many youth teams taking part and to quote Pete Dunne the future of the event looks safe! Of the various categories of winners one of the most impressive was the Cape Island Cup won by the WildBird team with an amazing 145 species south of the canal at Cape May, a tiny area. We would love to return next year and be part of this wonderful event.Bird species total: Still 2186
