Mutinondo Wilderness Lodge
20th September
We spent the whole day birding different areas of the lodge here. Birding Miombo woodland isn’t easy; the birds are pretty dispersed and difficult to see even when you can pin down where they are. But this is particularly pristine habitat, and very pretty too as we’re enjoying it at the time of the ‘Miombo Flush’ when some of the trees turn a glorious red colour. It’s so rewarding when you do catch up with new birds and we were pleased to add 5 new additions including Rufous-bellied Tit, Broad-tailed Grassbird and Striped Pipit, and we finally added Greater Striped Swallow to our list having missed it elsewhere in Southern Africa. It’s hot birding here, so a few beers round the campfire in the evening was particularly welcome before a delicious supper with our hosts Mike and Lennie. See www.mutinondozambia.com for more information about this amazing place.
