9th FebruaryBirding in the lunar landscape of the lava fields outside Metahara, near awash NP produced a specialist bird, Sombre Chat which we were able to compare against several individuals of the similar looking Blackstart. The nearby lake had us back on familiar territory with a great variety of waders. In the afternoon we birded Kudu Valley, were we found an idillic oasis heaving with Hammadryas or Sacred Baboons and a healthy gathering of seed-eaters coming in to drink. By now we're a bit smelly as we've had no running water or electricity for a couple of days. The way we suffer for our birds! Bird total: 1416
