Leaving do ends with a bang
Leaving do ends with a bang!
Temperatures were down to -4 degrees C and ice was thick on the ground but that didn’t stop over 60 people making their way to the Prince’s Arms in Trefriw in the Conwy Valley for a leaving bash to send us off. Thanks guys and girls for a great evening, it was fantastic to see everyone in one (warm and dry) place, and not a pair of binoculars between us, although Tawny Owl was calling just outside! Gifts were given and speeches were made – all very embarrassing – but now we have some even better kit for The Biggest Twitch, including a fancy new digital camera and a tripod carrier. We’ll really miss you all so please keep in touch and we’ll be back to do a bird race in North Wales on 30th January. Make sure that Bewick’s Swans are staked out on the Shotwick Fields on that day as it’ll be our only shot at this species during 2008!!! Any other rarities, particularly birds from the high Arctic, particularly an Ivory Gull or Ross’s Gull would be ideal. The evening at the Prince’s Arms ended in a cacophony of party poppers and we headed out into the silent night, thinking it was all over. How wrong can you be! Not long after midnight, we returned home with the temperature still well below freezing, so of course we switched the heating on. Bang! And bang again!! And still more bangs!!! Something was seriously wrong. We shut everything down and went to bed, hoping it would sort itself out overnight. But no. Glad to say it’s sorted now and nothing more sinister than a bad case of wind!
