How to make a travel agent weep
How to make a travel agent weep
Well, he didn’t exactly burst into tears but he certainly took a deep breath when faced with our itinerary for 2008. To achieve our ambitious birding target we have had to select our destinations carefully to make sure that we are in the right places at the right time of year to connect with the maximum number of birds. So this is no ordinary gap year following a well-worn trail around the globe in a logical sequence, but a rather zigzag affair across the continents to catch up with key bird areas at specific times of the year. But Steve Albon in the Manchester office of Trailfinders didn’t let that faze him in the slightest. Although he later admitted this was quite the most complex itinerary he’d ever had to book, he knew immediately how to start breaking it down into more manageable chunks. Thanks to airline scheduling we’ll be passing through Heathrow and Gatwick more often than we’d originally planned and will be spending more time than we’d like either in the air or waiting at airports, but at least it’ll give us a chance to mug up on the next field guide or to catch up on much-needed sleep! So thanks Steve, you’re a star, and we’ll be sure to send you a postcard or two!
