Getting ready for the next leg. Having spent the last two days doing very boring things like paying bills and filling in tax returns we are now looking forward to hitting the road again and seeing some new birds. With our total static for far to long we need birds and fast. We head for South Africa tomorrow, 26th, and a huge list of potential new birds, if things go very well we think 300 additions to The Biggest Twitch are possible but we will need good luck and of course help from local birders. We are very fortunate in that Keith Barnes and Christian Boix, see previous diary entry about birding in North Wales, from Tropical Birding ( www.tropicalbirding.com ) have very kindly offered to help us find as many of those 300 new birds as possible. We, well Ruth, hope to get out on a palagic boat trip and get up close and personal with some Albatross, no doubt Alan will be feeding them with his last meal!! It will be wonderful to see these awesome birds but hopefully we can also find out more about the vital conservation work being done to reduce the numbers being caught during commercial fishing operations and further highlight this cause. From South Africa we head east where huge numbers of new birds lie in wait, if things go well we could be very close to the record by the end of October, fingers crossed, then two more months to go on and push past it! No chickens being counted yet but with the route we have planned and the amazing help we have been offered there is every chance we can break that record.Bird total stuck on 2931posted Llandudno, Wales 25 August
