Some local birding before flying north. We left the hotel at 5am, of course this far north the sun well up and a lovely day. We drove for about one hour out of the city, our target bird Parrot Crossbill. Two Elk crossed the road and paused briefly for photos. As we neared the site, Pekka suddenly stopped and annouced that he had heard a Greenish Warbler, great we need it! The bird was singing loudly close to the track and after a few minutes moved into the trees right above us. We had amazing views of this small green and white warbler with just the faintest wing-bar and a powerful song.We searched the pine forest on a beautiful headland but no Parrot Crossbills, though twice two crossbill of undeterminded species flew over, frustrating. The area was very scenic and we enjoyed the morning sunshine seeing Black and Red-throated Divers, Eider with newly hatched young, Arctic Skua, White-tailed Eagle and Pied Flycatcher. As we walked back through the pines we flushed a European Nightjar, great to see in daylight. We are now heading for northern Finland so hope we will have internet access....Bird species total 2258
