The sweat's running down our bodies and dripping into our eyes as we struggle to get used to the very hot and humid atmosphere. Spent yesterday at Kakum National Park, much of the time up the canopy walkway. After Sacha Lodge, we thought this would be a doddle, but as the narrow ladder walkway swayed alarmingly from side to side as we walked along it, we soon changed our minds. Brave we were then to stop halfway across to scope two Black-casqued Hornbills, Bird number 1700 for the year. From the canopy and along the forest trails we picked up some great birds including Forest Robin, all 4 possible Malimbe, Red-billed Helmet-Shrike, Rosy Bee-eater and African Grey Parrot. But star of the show had to be Rufous-sided Broadbill, a stunning bird displaying just feet from our heads. This morning's highlights as we birded a roadside included Black Bee-eater and Crowned Hawk-Eagle. Later at a nearby reservoir we enjoyed great views of African Finfoot, preening by the water's edge, showing its amazing feet. And we rounded off the day watching a large flock of Preuss' Swallows coming in to roost under a bridge. And fufu? It lurks at the bottom of your soup, you eat it with your fingers and you must suck it not chew it. And it's the second best thing to come from Ghana, after coffee, according to Iain Campbell. We'll just take his word for it.Bird species total: 1729Posted 9pm, 4th March, Cape Coast Ghana
