From Sunderview back to Lama Camp
12th December. From Sunderview back to Lama Camp
The day began in good style with Gray Nightjar hawking over our tents at first light. We birded our way back to Lama Camp via Eaglenest Pass. Despite the persistent fog, we were able to locate a small flock of stunning Spotted Laughingthrushes in a patch of bamboo right at the pass. While watching the laughingthrushes, we noticed a party of birds moving down the hillside towards us and quickly realised that we had found Brown Parrotbills! This flock of at least 30 birds cascaded down through the bamboo towards us and passed with a few feet of us giving the most amazing views. The afternoon’s highlights included Rufous-breasted Bushrobin and an unexpected Little Forktail working its way up a waterfall just above the track. Our evening meal at Lama Camp was enlightened by a pair of bats circling the dining table. Peter’s crew again looked after us in fine style, even providing us with hot water bottles before bed, but with temperatures below freezing, they were very welcome!
Bird species total: 4208
