4th February Today we joined the 4-Jeep convoy tour of Tropical Birding as well as old friends and tour leaders Christian Boix and Keith Barnes. Christian arranged some bone scraps before lunch from a nearby butchery and during our lunch we all feasted our eyes on Ruppell’s Griffons, several Aquila eagles, White-headed Vulture, Lammergeier, Kites and Ravens scooping scraps next to us. Amazing views from our lunch spot at the Portuguese Bridge by the Ethio-German Park Hotel overlooking a magnificent tributary of the Nile. Birded the forest by Debre Libanos monastery, picking up some great forest species such as Abyssinian Woodpecker, Banded Barbet, White-cheeked Turaco, Ethiopian Orile, White-backed Tit and White-billed Starling to mention some. Highlights of the day were Abyssinian Longclaw, Blue-winged Goose, Lammergeier, Levant Sparrowhawk, Spot-breasted Lapwing, Abyssinian Ground-Hornbill, White-backed Tit, White-cheeked Turaco, Hemprich's Hornbill, Abyssinian Woodpecker, White-winged Cliff Chat, Somali Starling and the lion-like Gelada Baboon or Bleeding-heart baboon.
