We survived! A whistle-stop fast-paced tour down the east coast of Australia with Iain Campbell of Tropical Birding! Not for the faint-hearted but a keen birder's dream, this has been a rapid tour around all the best birding sites in this part of Australia, from mallee to mulga, pelagics, mangrove swamps, rainforest and dry savanna. And the birding's been phenomenal: 415 species seen in just 19 days adding a huge number of new species to our list. Looking down the checklist we just about saw everything possible! How to list all the highlights? We've seen every Australian family while in Australia, and all but one of those on this trip: Southern Cassowary, Plains-wanderer, Riflebirds, Parrots, Cockatoos, Raptors, Robins, Fairy Penguin and Fairy-wrens... And of course not forgetting the record-breaking bird number 3663: Bluebonnet. Very exciting to break the world record in this amazing country, and we've received so much support from Australian birders and all around the world. Our birding has been all against a beautiful backdrop of stunning and varied scenery: mountains, marshes, open plains, rocky coves and beaches, gorges, forest. Australia's really got the lot! But it's not quite over yet. We may be saying goodbe to Len and Linda, Jackie, Ken and of course Iain on this trip, but we've got one more day in Melbourne where we're birding with local expert Steve Davidson to squeeze in just a few more birds before we move on to our next country, So watch this space for more Aussie birds...
