Birding on elephant back!
Misty pre-dawn saw us in the now-open Kaziranga NP for our delayed elephant ride. As the light came up we set off into the mist astride an enormous Indian elephant. The animals are almost silent as they move through the tall grassland and it was easy to see wildlife from our lofty position. We had extremely close up and personal views of numerous Indian Rhino and a family party of wild Indian elephants. Undoubted bird highlight was a magnificent Bengal Florican (a large bustard).Sadly all too soon it was time to leave Kaziranga and head for Nagaland, even further east arriving well after dark. Although this is a state within India, we needed special permits to be allowed to enter here which added to the anticipation of visiting this remote area.Bird species total: 4120
