1st December. We survived a freezing cold night (just!) and were out at first light and climbing even higher to the pass above the resthouse. Birding was slow in the bitter cold and our target bird Sclater's Monal eluded us despite our best efforts. A Dark-rumped Rosefinch was the highlight of the morning, at least that was until breakfast arrived! Breakfast in the field had never been like this: table and tablecloth, the most delicious porridge ever tasted, boiled eggs, toast and tea all set up for us beside a Hindu temple with a spectacular backdrop of the snow-clad Himalayas!! The rest of the day was spent birding our way back down the road below the pass, finding it slow going most of the time, but towards the end of the day we had some real luck with a flurry of excellent new birds: best of which was undoubtedly Rusty-throated (Mishmi) Wren-babbler, a pair of which performed superbly right in front of our eyes only feet away from us. We returned to the resthouse for another amazing meal - how did Peter's crew make such a feast in such conditions?Bird species total: 4147
