BBC Wales features The Biggest Twitch
No strangers to filming at RSPB Conwy, BBC Wales reporter Roger Pinney and his cameraman Marc arrived on a bright sunny afternoon all set to do a piece on The Biggest Twitch for the 6.30pm Welsh news. While Marc took some great artistic shots of birds on the estuary including grazing Wigeon, Roger quizzed us on details of our expedition. ‘Won’t you miss all this?’ he asked. Well no, not really when you think what excitement lies ahead, but it will be a great place to come back to.
We moved into the nearby Benarth Hide and enjoyed great views of a Water Rail which sadly moved too quickly for the camera, but a gang of Common Snipe showed off beautifully in the late afternoon sun. A flock of some 200 Lapwing rose above the lagoons against the clear blue winter sky, a fantastic finale to their filming. Watching it back in the comfort of our home that evening, Roger and Marc had done a great job and put together a really interesting and visually exciting piece. Roger asked us about some of the countries we’re hoping to visit and any particular ‘must-see’ birds. Harpy Eagle is top of the list for Ruth but we’re well aware that these birds can be difficult. Alan mentioned that Ethiopia was perhaps the country that he’s always wanted to visit and it will be great to realise this dream in 2008.
