5th December. All day in the forest
Pre-dawn we added first bird of the day: Brown Hawk-Owl around the campsite at Eco-camp. Paddled over the river and spent the whole day birding in the immaculate forest, complete with armed guard to protect us from wild elephants, bison and tiger all roaming at large. Sadly we only saw footprints, not the whole animal. The one time we did need the guard to protect Ruth from being attacked by a monkey, he was looking the other way. That’ll teach us to eat bananas in the forest! Just a few of the highlight birds included Spot-winged Starling, Vernal Hanging-Parrot and both Gray- and Slaty-bellied Tesias. A nice reminder of home was a Peregrine Falcon sitting in a tree overlooking the river
Bird species total: 4172
The Biggest Twitch website will remain online in 2009 to keep you up to date with our birding adventures and let you know how we settle back into normal life, if we do!! We will also share more of our adventures and lots of photos from The Biggest Twitch.
