Across the mighty Brahmaputra to Mishmi Hills
30th November. Another day of travel, but with a difference! We eventually reached the river Brahmaputra, an enormous shallow river riddled with sandbanks and winding waterways crossing a vast floodplain. No metalled roads, just dirt tracks across the marsh to reach the river. Quite an adventure taking the boat across, but eventually we, and our crew and two vehicles made it safely to the other side. it was then a long slow drive winding ever upwards into the highlands of the Mishmi hills, an area of pristine forest, eventually reaching our base for the next 3 nights at dusk. Our accommodation was a derelict building with no running water or electricity - once a grand resthouse but now long past its prime. Amazingly however Peter's team soon set about the place making it more homely and rustled up a delicious meal and a roaring fire. Not many new birds today but a few good ones including Green Bee-eaters on roadside wires, Sand Larks on the sand banks of the river, and outside our house we were greeted by a gang of Yellow-billed Blue-Magpies.Bird species total: 4141
