Britain's Best Bird? We think so

There are some birds that it does not matter how many times you are lucky enough to see them they still send a thrill through you. We are very lucky in that we have one of these birds close to home - Black Grouse.

Black Grouse 1

Dawn on the moors of North Wales is a magical experience, the sight and sounds of a Black Grouse lek is something everyone should experience. As the light comes up the gorgous males come into focus and their bizarre cooing and bubbling calls float across the heather.

Black Grouse 2

The lek is so close we can see every detail of the glossy blue-black, red and white plumage as the males strut and posture in the morning glow. Suddenly one male rushes towards another in a head-down charge, then the two face-off, fencing, one lunges forward, the other steps back, then they swop, lunger backs off - all with the amazing calls going like crazy.

Black Grouse 3

The wild uplands of North Wales make the perfect back-drop for witnessing this wonderful bird spectacle, a rival to anything you will ever see in the world of birds. These birds will take your breath away with their beauty and weird lekking!
