A little twitching
Roy, Rose, Alan Gray and Rachel doing a little twitching
After the long flights back to the UK from Peru there was no thought of a lie-in as Ruth headed off for a meeting with her accountant while Alan got the much better deal by going birding, just for a change. Alan joined Alan Gray and his granddaughter Rachel at RSPB Conwy as part of their Little Twitch. This was Rachel’s idea to raise funds for Mindo Cloudforest Foundation, which is of course our chosen charity for this year. Rachel decided she would do a sponsored bird watch around Conwy and raise as much money for MCF as possible. The heavy rain did nothing to dampen Rachel’s enthusiasm and she was up early checking her garden feeders to get the day off to a good start. Rachel and her driver/scope carrier aka Granddad then headed west to Aber-ogwen near Bangor where they added a good haul of birds before meeting up with Alan at RSPB Conwy. The three then birded the lagoons, sometimes in the rain, sometimes in the dry. Highlight birds here included Common Greenshank, a nice flock of 38 Dunlin, Common Snipe, 5 Northern Shoveler and 14 Little Egrets on the adjacent estuary. Rachel left the reserve well pleased on over 50 species and last we heard late afternoon, they were on 80 species having visited the Great Orme and Rhos Point, adding more waders and seeing several Manx Shearwaters offshore. We were proud to sponsor Rachel on her Little Twitch and we hope she can raise as much as possible for this great conservation cause. You too can be part of this by logging on to
